Over the years I've casted and shot a lot of wheel weights through different pistol caliber cartridges. I've shot BPCR, using 20-1 or 30-1 alloys. I've shot linotype through a 7BR in IHMSA, etc.
Recently I experimented with 30-1 for a 357 mag rifle, with excellent results, both in terms of accuracy and zero leading. The plan was sort of an ad hoc arrival, as that was the alloy in the pot, and there wasn't much of it, so rather than make ingots from it, I thought I would just try it out.
This result is something I don't understand all that well, as it seems the boolits should be stripping, but I see no evidence of it. I shot my usual load of 13.2 grains of 2400, which is a pretty solid load, not a cat fart type load. The rifle is a Uberti replica 1873. I sized them .358 as always.
I wonder if there is something different, like maybe really deep riflings, or the tight bore diameter, that makes a difference?
Oh well. Just thought I'd report these results. I sure don't understand it, so I guess I'll just put this information in the "doesn't make sense, don't do it again" category.
