.308 load with imr4064

Looking for a good starting load using imr4064 powder, Sierra gameking 150 gr, hornandy case win wlr primers. Usig remington783 rifle. Twist rate is 1:10 26in barrel.

Wooters old load

John Wooters was a reloader and hunter of note and he wrote that his favorite .308 hunting load was a 150 SP and 46 gr of 4064. That charge weight is not a maximum in two manuals I just checked, BUT........

Components and rifles vary and I would start lower as suggested and work up to it.

I've moved away from 46 gr to 45 for hunting loads, and my FMJ practice loads with 147 gr slugs get 44.5, just to ease wear and tear on my rifles.

4064 lod

Thanks, loaded 5 rounds each 44 through 47 1 grain increments. Taking to range today. Gun shop just got in my usual powder IMR 4895. Can't wait to compare the two
