Reserecting Stampings

Sometime prior to my ownership, someone got a bit aggressive with the polishing on my S&W revolver. As a result, the "S&W" stamp on the left side of the frame is a tad weak. I thought this tends to happen to the S&W stamps, but is there a way to fix that without recoating the gun? If not, does S&W can do that or can someone recommend a smith who can fix it? Thanks.

S&W may be able to help you. Any smith that is able to do hand engraving which is the only way to restore that outside the factory is gonna be expensive.

There are only a few 'smiths that engrave, 4 or 5 that I know of. The price for recutting will vary from engraver to engraver. The proper way to do it would be to have it reblued afterwards. The majority of professional engravers won't cut a piece that's already blued.

Many of us have our information at FEGA under "Engravers & Photos". Hope this helps.

In reality, there is no way recutting that trademark would add enough to the value of the gun to even begin to cover the cost of the work. Even if the work were perfect, the other signs of polishing and rebluing would still be evident.
