Win Mod 24 SxS

I can pick up an excllent condition Model 24 Win. 12ga double for $500. I like the rounded smooth feel. People tell me these are pure junk like 37A Winchesters. Whats the deal with Model 24 Winchester sbys?

They were the lower priced side by side in the Winchester linup. The Model 21 was the top of the line. My old Gun Trader's Guide (18 th Edition) puts the value of a M24 in excellent condition at $495.

A family friend had one in 20 gauge and I was impressed by it.

24s were well made, a little on the heavy side. There's not many around because people hang on to them.

If you like it, get it.

Thanks for the info I think I can offer $450 for it if its there another week or so. I have other high grade SxS that I keep in their English cases for investment purposes only. And I have other favorite utility grade shotguns, I just wanted to top off a large cross section of 1935 -62 Winchesters rifle and pistol models I favor.

Anybody who thinks the Model 24 is junk, has probably never owned one. A 24 in 12 ga was my first shotgun and it gave me years of service - very reliable. It was a relatively inexpensive shotgun from the 40's and 50's, but quite a bit better than the lower end products available from other makers of the era. I'd buy one in a second if the price were right, and $500 sounds reasonable to me if it is in good mechanical condition. The only disadvantage I can think of is that finding replacement parts would be difficult.

Once again Stevens/Savage 311's are going for high $300's so I hope a Win 24 for $500 aint bad.
