870 front sight idea
I was sitting in the woods tonight and looking at my sights I was thinking there has to be a way to stay just a little longer.
I know I could buy tru dot fiber optics but I like playing with things. lets say I milled down my own front sight, drilled a couple holes, one for a fiber optic, another on bottom for an led. or did I just have to much free time to think about it? |

Putting a fiber optic front sight on will help in low light becasue it gathers ambient light and appears brighter than the background you are holding it against. Putting an LED may actually reduce visibility in low light. Sure, you would be able to see the LED, but it would blind you to what is beyond the LED. I always say keep it simple.

MR. CHAVO
I installed a fiber-optic front site on 3 of my shotguns. An easy install & the results are really great, especially for those of us who have eyes older than 55 !!!!! Besides that, the led lights require a power source & the fiber optics obviously do not.
Heed our advice & go with the fiber-optic sight. Guru1911

Another option is to install a tritium front sight.
These glow in bad to dark light and may work better than the fire sights. |

Iron sights including high visibility types do nothing to lighten the target (deer). However, scopes will add time in the morning and night that non-scoped sights will not. Most shotguns can be made to accommodate scopes.
