Old unwanted brass disposal

I have some old unwanted brass, what should i do with it? If i de-prime it can i take it to a junk yard? Its mostly in .223 and .308 and has seen its fair share of reloading, some of its just been replaced with newer better brass. Any suggestions of ways to get rid of it?

P.S:Im sorry if there was another thread on this but i couldn't find it in the archives.

A scrapyard should be able to buy it from you, and you may not have to deprime it first either. Call and ask them (some gun ranges scrap leftover cases), but you will probably spend more in gas than you will get for it.

Mine goes to the recycler that also takes aluminum cans. I don't deprime and the recycler takes them. Don't know what recycled brass goes for now but you'll get some return on your spent brass. I'd check first to see if your recycler has a problem with unprimed cases.

Thanks for the responses. I gotta call some yards in the morning and see what they say. Nothing like stumbling into the basement at 6am and stepping barefoot onto a .223 casing. Thanks again, Ethan.

Yeah, don't throw that away. Around here, copper & brass goes for around $1.25 a pound.

I keep a 5 gallon bucket for recycling brass, it mostly gets berdan primed mil-surp empties, when it's mostly full and I'm going by that way I stop at the recyclers and usually get $50 or $60 for a 2/3 full bucket......no need to remove primers. One recycler gives me a hard time if there's any nickel plated stuff in there, but another doesn't care.

Yep. Find a good scrap joint around you. Be careful with little operations. They'll try to pick you off and give you half the fair market. Brass should be bringing close to $2 per lb with the way copper has been screaming.

Does rimfire brass get the same price per pound at the scrap yards?

At my club's range we're responsible for our own clean up. I've been putting my swept up RF into the trash. If the stuff is worth $10 a gallon, I'll keep it.

Todays scrap brass is tomorrows new brass.

I dont care about whether or not its good for the planet, since we will be all buried under a tectonic plate in 50 million years, but rather, its good for the economy.

If you are too lazy to take it to a recycler or too worried about getting ripped off by $1 a pound on it I guess I reckon that the word personal responsiblility need not apply to you. If its no good to you and you dont have throw it out.....?
