Unique for 44Mag, 45 ACP, and 45 Colt

I got into reloading pistols/revolvers about 1 a year ago and reload 5 calibers. I'm using different powders for each and would like to use the same powder that would be good for 44 Mag, 45 ACP, and 45 Colt. I saw in my manuals that Unique can be used for all 3. How is Unique for these calibers?

Don't know about the .44's, but it works fine in .45LC, .45ACP, 9mm(several versions), .357, .38, and in some of my cast rifle loads. I'm a Unique fan.

I've used it in .44 mag, but I like 2400 better.

I used Unique for the last 25+ years in my 45 ACP's. It works great and is even cleaner than before now. I also use it for my 7.62x39mm grenade launching cartridges. I have used it in reduced rifle loads too, you can make a .223 act like a .22 magnum if desired.

I have finaly settled on Unique as my .357 load for practice using 7.7 grains behind a 140 or 158 grain pill. For full blown .357's I use WW296 but for everyday use the Unique gives you almost (1000) rounds from a pound, quite economical in the .357.

You can not load Unique to get max velocity of of a particular cartridge as Unique reaches peak pressure for the firearm quicker than some other powders. But for practice loads it is hard to beat.

I use it for .45, 9mm, .38, .357 light loads I usually use H110 for .44 and .357 full power loads.

I don't care for the "feel" Unique gives in 44magnum. Very poppy, I can't describe it well.

I have used AA#7 for 44mag and 45acp with good results. It's not as economical as Unique (around 10.0gr for 45acp loads depending on bullet, around 15.0gr for 44mag), but it feels great in that caliber for me.

I've just accepted that each caliber is going to have a powder that I like. I use Titegroup for 45acp, AA#7 for 44magnum.

For .44 Magnum?

8.5 grains Unique under a 250 grain Keith type LSWC, any case, any primer.

Tack driver in my Model 29.

Unique is one of the truly great pistol powders. Yes, it is a bit smudgy, but it burns completely so you don't have a bunch of flakes working down into the action. It is extremely versatile. I have loaded

In 45 Colt- 8.0 gr behind a 250 gr for plinking, more for hotrod rounds.
In 45 ACP- 7.7 gr behind a 185 JHP, 6.4 gr behind a 230 gr FMC
In 44 Mag- 11.0 behind a 240 gr (hot), 7.0 gr behind a 240 gr cast.
In 357- 7.7 gr behind a 158 gr JFP for target, more for hotrod rounds.
In 9mm P- 5.5 gr behind a 125 FMJ
In 38 Special- 4.8 gr behind a 158 gr cast

Generally, I use Blue Dot for full house magnum loads in 357 and 44 Mag.
