Value of Winchester Model 1892 and Model 12
Hi all,
Dad's getting on in years and wants to know the approx. value of his family guns...both are Winchesters. One was my Great Grandfather's in Oklahoma, a short barreled lever action rifle, marked 25-20 and Model 1892. We estimate this one to be over 100 yrs. old, but could be wrong. The other is a pump shotgun, a Model 12 in 16 gauge. Best guess on this one is probably 70-80 years old. Both are in maybe "VG" condition, just a guess. Harley and all: any info you can provide is MUCH appreciated!

Winchesters are well documented. Post the serial numbers and somebody will look up the years of manufacture.
Value depends HEAVILY on condition and any unusual features. A standard model 92 .25-20 carbine is listed in the Blue Book at $995 with 60% of the original finish remaining. A regular model 12 pump 16 gauge is listed there at $295 with 90% of the original finish remaining. Nicer shape, unusual or special order features = more money; more wear and tear, refinish, or user alterations = lower value. If Great Grandpa was a lawman or historical figure and you have documents or pictures to place him with that Winchester, that would be very good. But family legend and oral history don't count for much. Tell us more, we can tell you more. |

Thanks Jim!
I'll get serial #'s and post 'em when I have 'em. Re: history, the '92 probably has more than the 12. The old codger who originally had it rode herd and shot wolves, coyotes, etc. with it. It was his saddle gun as he drove cattle all across Texas and Oklahoma. No major historical figure, just another salt of the earth pioneer Sooner type. He was my mother's paternal grandfather. Thanks again for the info!
