Muzzleloader primer in or out when walking?

Hey folks, I was wondering for those that hunt during muzzleloader season, do you walk through the woods with your primer but uncocked or do you load a primer once sitting? My cva has no trigger saftey like my rifle buy being new to muzzleloaders is uncocked the saftey feature? Thanks

I cap the rifle as soon as I get to my hunting area, before reaching a stand.
Many times I've walked up on deer while going to the stand.

Most sidelocks have a "half-cock" position for safe carry.
Most inlines have some sort of safety, even if the trigger can still be pulled

Safest uncapped !!!

Generally it's always best not to have your rifle capped until you get to your stand or blind. You can follow all kinds of safety rules as well as safeties but Murphy's law will eventually catch up with you. .....

This is true but they too can fail. ....

We teach the use of any and all mechanical safeties but "never" to trust them. Trust safety rule No.1 about muzzle control.

Another point on mounted primers is weather conditions. Does not take much to deactivate a #11 or muskets. No 209 have better protection. I do not know of any 209 primed M/L, that does not have a mechanical safety.

Again,
Be Safe !!!

Capped if I'm still hunting into my stand. Uncapped if it's dark.

Walking, hiking, or sitting... capped, half-cock.

Any other time... no cap, hammer down.

(Side lock only. I don't use in-lines.)
