Been thinking about getting a 9mm

I been thinking about getting a 9mm just because I do not have one and I also have 5 boxes of Super Vel 9mm 125 SJHP.

Started doing some research on the Super Vel just to see what they are worth. These rounds must be from around 1980. Any ideas on the value?

Value? What are they worth to you? That's probably more than they are to someone else but I'm guessing you want a $ amount...
Probably worth about .30 a round.
Get you a 9mm and shoot em up.

If the box is in great shape, they would be worth a few bucks to certain collectors as a display or curio. Perhaps even $50-100 per box to the right collector. SuperVel was revolutionary in concept, and is somewhat legendary if you are "of a certain age".

As far as actual ammo goes, there are far better choices out there today (as in, pretty much everything made in the last 20 years or so).

Kind of like a 65 Mustang. Looks neat, and you don't see one every day, and it is worth money to those who have nostalgia towards them.

But any new Mustang is 20x the car in every objective measure.

Not sure I would buy a 9mm just to shoot them...but your ammo, your money, your choice.

Edited to add: your pics did not show up first time I posted. Yes, the boxes look good. I would Google and look on GB, etc, and see if they are selling for good money. Then put one box on GB and see what it brings. Who knows, in today's crazy world, if you ended up selling them for $100/box, they could finance your new 9mm.

I'd say $50 or so bucks to the right person. It's not like they're in high demand, but more for sentimental reasons to someone. I probably wouldn't by a 9mm just for that, but whatever works for you.

For me, I'd say off to the range and time to shoot 'em up!

Guys, it is an excuse to buy a 9mm because I do not have one.

Would not shoot them unless I had to. I have maybe another 250 rounds of Winchester and Federal in the cabnet.

Did the same thing with a 25 cal. Had about 300 rounds of 25 so I had to get a gun to shoot them.

I am not a fan of either caliber but bullets do not do any good with out a gun to shoot them in. Am I thinking right?

If your not a fan of 9mm, just sell the ammo. Now is a perfect time. Nobody seems to be able to find any.

Yes, that SuperVel is quite desireable to collectors.
Want a 9MM. You have your choice. As a member of SNM (Sons of Neanderthal Man) I reccomend a steel frame. You can't go wrong with a Browning HiPower.

but I would think ....buying a 9mm ...is a good idea. ( but then I have a number of guns in 9mm, .40S&W, .45 acp etc....)....

If you got ammo you need a gun to shoot it in. Goes without saying. I'm a fan of the 9mm, it's cheaper than anything else if you don't handload. There are a lot of good guns in 9mm including some pocket guns like the LC9 and the Kahr. A 9mm in a 1911 would be a great gun. There are even a few 9mm revolvers if you're lucky enough to land one. It ain't a .357 or a .45 but we need some variety.

I'm betting that the fella who told you that a collector would pay $50-100 a box can't put you in touch with one that actually would pay it. Unless proving his point meant more than throwing money away.
I told you to buy a 9mm and shoot it because you should have a 9mm pistol (Glock 19) anyway and the ammo isn't worth more than the powder to blow it up (pun intended).

But go ahead and take his advice, put your ammo on gunbroker. I'll bet you will have no takers at his suggested prices.

A 9mm pistol is a handy thing to own. It facilitates lower cost shooting vs other calibers.
As for your Super Vel ammo, you might as well capture whatever collector value is there. Try some of the Antique Arms shows, Gunbroker, etc. I have no idea what the results will be but it will be interesting to find out. Report back your experience.

Nothing wrong with a 9mm. There are lots of folks who rue the day they came up against someone who could fight back with a 9mm.

There are some really nice guns and you are sure to find something you like in steel or plastic.

They all get a turn at the range. The G19 or a G30 is a pretty nice CCW.

Or go really iconic with a P-38 or Luger

I tend to stay away from the guns made from recycled water bottles, but thats just my taste.

Don't forget the early S&W single stacks...I love my 39-2! Other 9's in the stable include the wife's duty gun, gen 4 G17, her off duty S&W Shield 9, and my off duty FNH FNP9. There isn't a 9 in the stable I don't like.

I'm kinda in the same..got a couple 1911 mags and no 1911 to run them in!

If you get a new 9mm handgun, shoot some modern rounds through it first for break in. If it runs without any issue, I would start shooting the old ammo through it because it will be worth just about as much fun and practice as you will be able to get for them.

I don't think you will get more than $20 a box, and you would be more likely to get that $20 a box from someone that wants 5 boxes of ammo to shoot.

To me it sounds like a good excuse to go buy a 9mm. You'll never regret it, they're great guns. In the end after everything else, the 9mm is still my favorite.
