Really Good Win Primer

Was unloading the clothes washer into the dryer and heard a metallic sound in the washer (who hasn't washed some change) but found it was a Winchester large pistol primer, unfired. So, of course I had to try it, right? Went bang just like its supposed to! Wash, rinse, spin dry, fabric softener, and rinse and it still went bang. Way to go Winchester!

Water will not kill a primer if you let them dry.

Had an old fella tell me to NEVER, EVER use my fingers to pick up primers spilled on the reloading bench. After tiring of the tweezers, I broke the old man's rule a few years back. Still have not had one fail to go off becuase I touched it!

That primer going through the wash and still working is a good story, though! I wish the pay check I left in my shirt pocket farred as well!

I would be FAR more worried about the potential effects of my wife finding primers in the washing machine - that would be dangerously explosive

I have touched just about every primer I ever seated, because I use one of the old, pre-tray Lee hand priming tools. All I do is wash my hands before (and after) handling the primers. Not one has ever failed to go off. Mostly CCIs with some Winchesters and Federals Alcans.

C'mon, a primer soaked for weeks in WD-40 still fires just fine. Do you really think a bit of oil from your skin is going to deaden it?

Today's primers are quite resistant to oils and moisture. But I am impressed the wash and rinse didn't affect it.
