How can I duplicate 10mm Double Tap 135gr

loads? They are getting 1600 fps! Nothing in any of manuals is even close to that. Dang lawyers.

Working carefully up, start at 9gr of IMR 800-X. I worked up to 13.5gr, started getting bulged cases. Backed down to 13gr.

I was using a stock Glock 20 gen 2. Brand new starline brass, Federal large pistol primer, C.O.L 1.260".

In my KKM 6" barrel the 13gr load achieved 1745fps. Didn't chronograph the factory barrel.

As a side note, be careful as these loads come close and can pass max saami pressure for the 10mm.

I can add in using this with the nosler 135gr jhp, and the 13gr load, I dispatched a racoon. From 15 feet away the bullet entered the neck and traveled down through the body. Split him open like a butterflied pork chop.

Look at actual chrono reports of dt ammo, usually much lower than advertised. Buffalo bore is much closer to advertised velocities.
I'd look at some 800x to start with and some warm primers like winchester mag/standard and new brass.

I chronoed DT once, considerably slower than what the box advertised, however once I changed out the recoil spring to something a little heavier and did that little test again the numbers were not far off from what the box says.

Hodgdon's site is showing 135 hitting 1551 fps with CFE Pistol.

Are you getting 1600fps in your pistol or are you going by what the ammo manufacture claims?

Ramshot Silhouette claim 1575fps out of a 5 inch barrel.

Neither. I watched a video of a guy with a chrono. He was at 4000 feet, though.

Anybody use Power Pistol with 135gr JHPs? I've heard this is a good combo. I was told not to use Bullseye (which is what I use for .45.)

I'll definetely work my way up slow. If I broke my Delta, I'd cry for days.

edit: I would think with a delta elite, I would need to be a bit more careful than you Glock shooters. Would it be safe to say a good load in a Glock might be a bit too much for me?

Without testing velocity in Your pistol over Your Chrony, you can't compare or match velocities.

In my glock with factory barrel I get pressure signs pretty quick, that barrel smiles the brass with the large unsupported portion of the chamber. While I haven't played with a delta elite (but a gun I want), beef up your recoil spring, and just work up. I couldn't imagine it being any worse.

In terms of power pistol I haven't done any work up on 135's, just the 800-x. The 800-x is widely publicized online for high velocity 10mm loads. As is longshot

Power Pistol and 800x are probably the two highest velocity powders for 10mm. Power Pistol meters much better, 800x meters like corn flakes.

Doesn't matter much, as at max-max loads I'd recommend weighing every charge anyway.

The significant factor in 10mm is that the brass is weak (that large primer takes out a lot of structure) and feed ram intrusion can be a problem, hence the "bulge".

Before Mike McNett started double tap, he asked me how I was getting so much 800X to fit in a 10mm case.

I told him with a process I invented called double compression.

Later I found out that the black powder guys invented it and gave it the same name. Did I re invent it, or just try to steal the idea with selective amnesia?

It shouldn't be all that hard to mimic, heck with 800x I can regularly get 1,550 fps from my 4" Glock 23. Longshot does well too, and with a slightly warm load (more than 12.0gr but less than 13.0gr) I've ran 135gr Noslers to over 1,900 fps from a 6" G24.

I don't load the 10mm anymore, but I don't think I messed too much with 135gr bullets in it.

I'd been using special compression techinques for years in my successful attempts to eliminate potential setback.

To the OP, in your Delta most highly recommend you stop pushing the 135g Nosler or Sierra JHPs at 1500fps.
This velocity will be sufficient.

Many powders can safely reach 1500 without stressing things.....

My .40 loads with 135 gr. Nolser and Longshot will do 1460 fps, no problem, but the bullet doesn't handle that much speed very well. Great for small game, like skunks and coons, because it is instant energy transfer! It really comes apart.

(Why CorBon switched to the 135g Sierra JHP for defense ammo.)
