Seriously I think there are few, if any, in the US. You would have to be a class 3 dealer to get them. Airsoft is probably your best bet, or perhaps a Yemeni arms bazaar.

A very very few semiauto FAMAS rifles made it into the US, it might be possible that a few NFA full auto FAMAS rifles made it in as well before 1986 but they would go for an astonishing amount of money I would think. The last FAMAS semiauto I saw in a really old GunList had an asking price of 8-10k dollars if I remember correctly. Put these into the same group as the Sig550 rifles that are in the US, RARE!

Will be interesting to see if anyone can kick up a source for the rifles either in semiauto or full auto configuration.

Best source would be the French Army.

i'm sure you could go to the french army and get a FAMAS that the french soldiers actually used in battle. "why yes, we do have some FAMASs for sale and all of them have never even been fired and only been dropped once!"

What kind of shooting do you do? What is the state of private firearms ownership in your country? Anything I've read on the topic is at least 20 years out of date.

I am especially interested by the shooting with military weapons ( pistol or rifle ), but it is also the category of weapon hardest to be able to buy in France, moreover, where I live, shooting ranges of more than 50 meters are rare ( thus I go to Switzerland

)

the French legislation on the weapons is very hard !
there is 8 catégory of weapon

- 1st : military weapon ( rather calibre used by an army )

even if, it is a civilian bolt action rifle in 30.06, because the ammunition was used in an army
automatic weapons are forbidden !!

- 2nd : vehicles or support being used to receive a weapon of 1st category

- 3rd : NBC equipments

- 4th : Weapons of defense

all pistols and revolvers not using ammunition classified into 1st category
( that included one round 22lr pistol )
all semi auto rifle not using ammunition classified into 1st category with a box magazine 2+1 < x < 10+1 or a detachable box magazine
all kind of shotguns with a capacity x < 0+1

- 5th : Hunting rifle

all other rifles not being classified in the 1st, 4th and 7th category

- 6th : all objects suceptible to constitute a danger to public safety
crossbows, bows, knives for exemple

- 7th : shooting weapons
all rifles using rimmed fire ammunitions
the air weapons (using .177 calibre for exemple ) and the alarm/blank guns

- 8th : historical weapons
weapons neutralized
weapons produced before 1870
reproduction faithful of old weapons

to buy weapons of 1st and 4th category it is necessary:
to be 21 years old
being in a shooting range since 6 months
to have a strong trunk
and to wait more than 1 years for its first authorization of acquistion

Sounds rough, SolidSheep. Do you own any weapons yourself? You say you go to Switzerland to shoot - do you ever bring your own weapons over the border, or do you just rent guns there?

Our legislation on the weapons is completely illogical, and it is what irritates me more!!!

I have 3 rifle :
a Cz 452 Varmint ( my first rifle I bought

)
a mosin nagant 91/30 with PU scope in 30-284W ( 5th category )
and a M1 Garand in 30 06 CC which will come soon ( 5th category again )

In Switzerland a friend lends rifle to me !
I had the occasion to test all the weapons of the Swiss army ( FASS 57/90, K31, K 1911, P 210, P226 )

I get information to be able to bring back my own weapon to Switzerland !
