G19 or P99

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a second 9mm handgun (I have a Glock17 gen4)

I've come on these two one, Glock 19 (with a LoneWolf longer barrell, cause the original glock one is too short for our canadian law) or a Walther P99.

Don't talk to ma about Sig, M&P or something else, just these two ones.

Which one would you pick?

I'd pick the G19. Since you are already familiar with Glocks and the 17 magazines can be used in the 19.

I'm in the same boat, I'd go for the G19 for the same reason. You're already familiar with the controls, and you can use the mags you already have.

Though, if you're looking for something different, the P99 might be better.

Of those two? P99 by a good margin. Has the best ergos, for me, of any pistol I've held. That and I like DA/SA.

Do you like the G17? Are you comfortable with Glock? Is this for carry or are you collecting guns and want the diversity?

If this is for carry and you preform well with your G17 then I would stick with the platform and get the G19.

P99. no question.

too many bad experiences and stories of bad experiences with g19 malfunctions.

Depends what you want it for?? If its just for shooting at the range, I personally like to to mix it up. I'd go p99. If your planning to carry, then well you make the call. Both great handguns and I would like to think you'd be happy either route you take.

The P99 is a superior pistol to the Glock 19.

Better fit & finish, better trigger, better ergonomics, and equal durability/reliability (maybe better than Gen 4 Glocks). The P99 tends to be less succeptible to limp-wristing than Glocks, and the P99 is well-known for being able to reliably eat pretty much ANY ammo (including lead reloads). Along with the Glocks and H&K USPs, the P99 is one of the most-proven polymer-framed pistols on the market.

But, since you are already invested in Glock 17 mags, that makes your decision a little tougher.

Have you fired the Glock?

Tunnelrat, have you experienced the Glock? Fired it/tested it out?

I've owned two Glock 19s. I've sold two Glock 19s. There's an old beat up Gen 2 Glock 19 at a range I frequent. Shoots fine for me. Both the new Gen 3 and Gen 4 I tried threw brass to my face with a passion. I love the new texture of the Gen 4 though, would put it on everything if I could.

The pistol is for range shooting and home defense only, we are not permited to carry here in canada.

I really like the look and ergonomics of the P99, this is a sexy pistol, and a proven one.

On the other hand, I like my G17 and everything that I have for the G17 (glock tac light, magazines, holster and mag pouch...) would fit on the G19. One of the thing that I don't like is the fact that it will have a LoneWolf barrel inside instead of the Glock factory one (due to stupid canadian law that require a +105mm barrel). The G19 would be a gen3.

I'm thinking about it more, the real benefit of the 19 over the 17 is the fact that it's more compact and easier to carry. Since you already can't carry it, and you already have a G17, I'd so go for the P99 so you have some variety on the range.

All the glocks i have are 45acp so i only know i like my glocks. I did own the Walther p99 QA. three different triggers with the P99. Make sure you like the trigger if you go with the walther. Walther has great ergonomics, great reliability, but trigger was hard to get use to, but with a few hundred rounds it was very accurate. good luck, either choice is a good one.

I've owned two Glock 19s. I've sold two Glock 19s.

I have held the P99, but never fired one. Did feel very good compared to the others I held that time. It does look/feel like a solid piece, cheers!

I myself newly aquired a gen3 glock 26, and I love it! 30 round mags. for range fun, and easily concealed. Love it!

Go with the 19, I had one. Too bad I'm not allowed to expound the virtues of the S&W M&P 45C!

Personally I like the Walther a little bit better, but it's really six of one 1/2 dozen of the other. Get whichever feels best to you.
They're a little different from each other, but I don't think either one's quantifiably better than the other.

Glock all day long. You already have a 17 so the controls and operation is all the same and you can use 17 mags in a 19. Mainly the glock has an excellent reputation and a proven track record. The p99 is probably a good gun but I KNOW the G19 is. Plus the aftermarket support of the G19 is going to be much better. The only reason NOT to buy a glock is if you fall into the group of people who just hate the way it feels and you can't shoot it well, but you already have a glock so that's probably not the case for you.

The P99QA is generally regarded as the least-desirable P99 variant due to its trigger. The QA trigger is very Glock-like, but heavier at ~8.5 lbs.

The PPQ (called P99Q or P99RAD in the European market) has replaced the P99QA, and has a much lighter and smoother (~5.5 lbs.) Glock-like trigger with an incredibly short reset. Most folks who have this gun love it.

The P99AS and first-gen P99s have the superb AS (Anti-Stress) DA/SA trigger. This is the variant you want, IMHO. This a very easy trigger system to use, since it works pretty much just like most DA/SA pistols out there, but has a remarkablly smooth and crisp trigger with the same incredibly short reset. The single-action trigger pull is ~4.5 lbs, which makes it a fantastic range pistol, and the DA/SA action makes it a safer alternative for defensive use or carry, IMHO.

Haha Chris! If we were doing that I would tell em 92A1 and he could thank me later! No wars though. I'm not even familiar with the cz, (I just swear by the Beretta!)

Any who... if your not carrying and your strictly range and home defense why bother with another glock? (Not dissing glock, you glock lovers!, just making a point)

The only attachment your gonna want is the spare mag...

You've got the glock and its at home I'm assuming. Grab the p99 and get familiar with it, after some time you'll be great with two different styles of handguns.

Unless your strictly planning on buying glocks the rest of your life, switch it up. Im a Beretta guy, but I realize there are all sorts of types of guns for all sorts of types of reasons. Again though, ultimately its up to you, don't let another persons opinion weigh down on what YOU WANT/NEED

Walther is in a different class than Glock. I would choose the Walther every time, even if it was a QA.

It would be the P99AS...

What other magazine from the Walther pistols is compatible with it?
