Essex SxS
Hi
I am looking for a little information. I bought a little SxS from my local Gun shop. It has 27 1/2 inch barrels, the woodwork is possibly Beech but its hard to tell. The Barrels are stamped "Essex" and "Firearm Co". I have looked on the web and found that It was possibly made by a "J Stevens Arms Company". For the "Belknap Hardware Company" But on researching the proof marks they have turned out to be Spanish from after 1929. I belive it was proofed in the Eibar region. There is also a Y.Z prefixing the code number, which i belive denotes Laurona. I have E mailed Laurona but have not had a reply as of yet. I was trying to find out what its age is, and if it was shipped to Spain from the US. Its in exellent condition and i have used it all this season, it is an ideal game gun it is very light and and the best bit was, it was very inexpensive. If anybody has any info or can point me in the right direction it would be most appreciated, as i now seem to have come to a dead end. Regards Eddie |

There is a secondary group of people who collect Belknap Hardware Co. items who may value an Essex shotgun higher than gun collectors. However if you are in the UK maybe this isn't a gun manufactured for Belknap as their distribution was in The States.

Thanks for the Info.
Would this mean that it was still produced by J Stevens?. Or could i be barking up the wrong tree. Regards Eddie |

There was a Laurona (Spain I Think) shotgun made for sears and I am thinking this may be the one you have. I don't think is was made by J. Stevens.
