Has anyone had problems loading 45-70 close to max in Marlin 1895's? My boss wants me to load some rounds for him for protection from bears in Montana. I kept 2 grains off of max but I don't think he's going to shoot any before he goes back out there. Do you think I should lighten the loads?

Little-E. I would try shooting a couple of those rounds. When I get close to max in my 95 Marlin, the lever kicks open. If it does that, then you might want to back off a tad.
