155 grain lead in 40S&W with unique
I bought some 155 grain "black" coated bullets from precision. Alliant shows a max load of 8.0 grains Unique for a 155 jacketed ( 1207 FPS). Minus 10% would still be 7.2 grains .. that sounds high to me. Anyone have any input on using unique with 155 grain lead? I have used 5.0 grains of 231 and it shoots well but feels a bit light. I also used 5.5 unique with 180 grain lead, but havent loaded any 155's with unique.
Thanks |

I would not recommend using jacketed load data for coated lead bullets, especially for higher pressure 40S&W caliber.
I would use the 2004 Alliant load data for lead bullet and do my work up from 10 percent below max (5.8 gr). This is from Precision Bullets FAQ page - http://www.precisionbullets.com/faq.htm Quote:

Hodgdon #26 shows 7.3 grains of Unique as max for a 155 jacketed. that's what I use for my HPs. I'd reduce it to 6.5 and try that with the cast ones.
AA #5 is great in the 40 cal too.
