The marlin 55 Goose gun will handle ANY factory .12 gauge load you feed it! As long as it has a 3" chamber that is!

Careful with steel or Hevi-Shot through that long full choke...

Large steel, and/or Hevi-shot can, and may, open your choke for you...

Any lead load is fine...Confirm you have a 3" chamber before firing 3" shells...

My grandmother had one of those. Seriously. She kept it behind the door of her bedroom, that shotgun stayed there for 40 years that I know about. I never knew her to shoot it, nor clean it other than the dusting that the other items in her bedroom got.

I wonder what happened to it when we cleaned out her house. Probably one of my cousins has it. Good for them. I have my inheritance in memories.

FYI: SAAMI uses the same pressure (11,500 psi) standards for 2-3/4 and 3-inch 12-ga guns. With the newer 3-1/2-inch 12-ga mags, the pressure is raised (to 14,000 psi).

Not sure what SAAMI pressures have to do with anything...

The suggestions to confirm chamber length on the gun were so that he did not inadvertently fire a 3" shell in a shorter chamber...

At that point, SAAMI specs are meaningless...

He specifically asked about pressure. The question wasn't, Is a 3-inch turkey load appropriate in a Marlin Goose gun, perhaps it should have been.

I apologize...I do see the point now...

And yes...I do feel that the question should have been 'Will a Marlin Goose Gun handle a 3" shell', and apparently, I interpreted it that way...

AFAIK, the Marlin Model 55 "Goose Gun" only came 36", Full Choke, and clearly stated on the barrel "The Original Marlin Goose Gun 3 Inch Magnum Chamber"...

I have seen some people erroneously call any old Model 55 the 'Goose Gun', and I am pretty sure these originally came with 2 3/4 inch chambers in the early 50's...

Salmoneye, I suspect you're correct. I haven't seen one of those long barreled goose guns since the '60s when I was stationed back east (we don't see many geese in my neighborhood). And, I don't have a clue about the barrel markings, I bow to your knowledge.
