Powder question
Anyone using IMR SR 7625 for 9mm, 45acp or 44 mag? How does this powder work for you?

The reason I asked is, I remember someone posting a while back that they used this powder for 9 mm, and it worked well. Yet I haven't heard of anyone else using it so far.

I don't have any info on the .45 acp.
For 9mm plinking I would say ok more so for jacketed bullets but cant say for sure how well it works for lead cast. As far as 44 magnum I am only personally familiar with Unique and have had good results with it. Can't really comment as to how clean it burns as opposed to something else or flash but performance was just fine. Little harder to tell those things for me because first off we are talking a 44 magnum with a lot of bang and secondly I shot it very little as opposed to the other handgun calibers. If I am not mistaken they have similar burn rates but Unique worked well for me. Maybe get a bump on this thread so someone with more experience can chime in.

It's probably going to be very position sensitive in .44 mag, but it's great in 9mm. Should work well in the short .45acp case.
When I used it in .357 with 125 LFP's I noticed some differences in recoil from shot to shot. I knew my charges were within +/- .1 grain, so I borrowed a chrono and discovered that with the muzzle down prior to shooting velocities were ~100 fps less than average. With the muzzle pointed up prior to firing velocities were ~100 fps higher than average. (over 200 fps extreme spread) Enough to notice the difference in recoil. Groups at 25 yards were just fine, but I'm sure at longer ranges it would show up Last edited by Hammerhead; July 7, 2013 at 01:25 PM. |
