30-30 bp loads

Just for the heck of it,I was thinking of loading some 30-30 shells with a bp substitute like 777 or black mag with 150 gr. Berry copper clad lead bullets. Does anyone have a load for this and will the fouling necessitate cleaning during the shooting session?

I think the case will hold 42 grs. of bp. I've read varying reports of using bp in a 30-30. Some have had good luck with it, some haven't. BTW the 30-30 was never a bp round. The original load was 30 grs. of smokeless.

If I remember correctly, the one that was meant to be reloadable with BP was the .32 Winchester Special.

Rather than looking for loading tables, I'd suggest taking a look on BP reloading in rifles. I have a book like that around here. It goes into paper patches and all that fun stuff that you probably won't want, at least at first. But it might have some good info for you.

If I remember correctly (big if) it's not a matter of loading a certain powder charge. It's a matter of filling the case, as with handgun cartridge loading.

That is correct. BP must be compressed. If you don't want full loads use a filler like cream of wheat or cornmeal to take up space.
