Mosin Nagant disassembly
Hey guys. Im not new to my Mosin Nagant, but i tried to remove my rear sight base, and im stumped My Mosin is a 1938 round receiver Izmash, and instead of two retention pins that need to be drifted, there's nothing! If you lift the rear sight, behind the spring on the base itself is a small screw head. I couldnt unscrew it. I know many bases are silver soldered on, but why no pins?

According to this:
http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinFeatures02.htm They used different methods to attach the rear sight base. Originally they used the screw to locate the base and silver-soldered it in place. One arsenal changed from the screw and solder to the two pins just before WWII, while the other arsenal kept to the old method. Later, some rifles had the two pins added, even though it had the screw and solder. So there are M91/30s with either or both methods of attaching the rear sight base. Just out of curiosity, why are you removing it? |

Why not?
I just enjoy taking things apart, i dont plan on bubba-ing my rifle up. So, does the screw [I]need[I] to be taken out to remove the base? Or just heat?

That's really the only way to get all of the cosmo out of the sight base, is to dis-assemble it. |
