Adding a Flash Suppressor

In the process of "sporterizing" my M38, I have removed the bayonet lug. I originally intended to add a homemade flash suppressor where the barrel is reduced. I would have soldered it on, but now I'm wondering if there is a screw-on suppressor manufactured that will fit the barrel if I thread it. Do any of you know of such a critter?

Welcome to the Forum!

Myself, I would forget the flash-hider - it will just clumber up the rifle. If you were in combat it might help, but sporting use it will be of little use. I know of few, if none German 98 Mausers that had or needed one.
Just my opinion - Honestly, the idea has crossed my mind at times but I've always given into reason and I never did it.

A flash hider would be a good way to protect the crown on a rifle for hard use.

You'll have to cut threads or come up with another way to attach it.

Soldering is a good option.

tINY is correct about muzzle devices protecting the muzzle from dings, etc and that's the only reason that I have them on all of my rifles. However, instead of using a flash hider, I use muzzle breaks. A flash hider may be usefull in a combat situation but a well designed muzzle break is something that you can feel the difference with. It will reduce the felt recoil, especially on large caliber rifles. The bigger the muzzle blast, the more effect a well designed muzzle break will have. Keep yer powder dry, Mac.
