Well, I've got a bow related question. I've heard numerous stories of how folks pick up the arrow after shooting a deer--completely passes through. Is this what should happen? My bow is 55lb compound bow, but the arrows stay lodged in the deer. Should this happen? How does that affect time it takes the animal to die? You'd think the stick staying in sorta plugs the hole making a bleedout more difficult.

There are a few variables involved with the arrow passing thru or staying in.
All of my experience's are pass thru's. I use a compound set at 62 #. If you tend to take longer shots the arrow may stay in the animal. Generally my experience is 35 yards or less always pass thru. That being said, it also very much depends on where the animal is hit. The shoulder will usually stop an arrow (lots of bone in the scapula area) where as the vital zone only has ribs to slow the arrow. The buck I took this year was a pass thru taking out both lungs. There was very little blood on the ground until he stopped, most of the blood was internal. The arrow went thru one rib and the entrance and between the ribs on the exit. The deer went about ten yards and stopped, wobbled and fell over. Your choice of broadheads will have a bit to do with it also. I use a three blade fixed broadhead and it does a great job. As for the blood on the ground. All my hits have been pass thru's so I can't help you there. Hope this helps,
