Can anyone recommend a firearms training school in Central IL?

I am just a civilian so no government only ones.

I am mostly interested in handgun and carbine training.

Would not mind traveling to neighboring states.

Thanks

I took the 5-day Defensive Pistol class at the Chapman Academy in 2002. The range is located near Halltown, just a bit north of Columbia, MO. Great facility; the Bianchi Cup match is held there every year.

The school was founded by the late Ray Chapman, the first IPSC champion. My class was taught by his hand-picked successor Mr. John Skaggs. John suffered a stroke a couple of years back and I don't know whether he's returned to teaching as yet or not, but in any case I'd recommend it highly.

Details on class schedules and everything else can be had at the website. Just Google Chapman Academy.

Here ya go! In addition to being top-notch themselves, Andy and Bob host the very best instructors in the country there throughout the year. I personally have been there for classes with Mas Ayoob, Ken Hackathorn and the late, great Jim Cirillo.

I do Midwest Training Group and I'm in Peoria so it's only about 40 miles east of me. I took a class with the late Jim Cirrillo a couple of years ago. He was good.

I just finished a 4-day defensive handgun course at Front Sight in Las Vegas. I realize it is farther than you asked for, however, the training was top-notch. they are geared for the civilian. You can usually find a coupon on ebay. I will go back again when I get the chance.

I second Wagonman's motion re: Team Spartan.

I've attended a couple of shooting classes with John Krupa who's the top-dog at Spartan. You'll benefit by listening to whatever he has to say about defensive shooting because he's an OUTSTANDING shot and REALLY knows what he's talking about!
