Talked to the clerk at my local Wal-Mart yesterday. He said they get shipments of .22 bulk ammo a couple times a week. It comes in at night. But someone is always standing there in the early morning hours waiting to buy it all up everytime. None is left for other customers througout the day and week.

Walmart

8:30 am went with wife to Wal-Mart to get groceries and stopped by sporting goods. ( last month no one ever at counter at that time since they sell out by 7:30) Low and behold 2 guys at the counter. I ask them what came in since their bags look pretty heavy. Everything. Started talking and one guy was from Michigan buying 22lr and 9mm and the other guy was a cop buying 9mm and 40. I ponied up and got the bulk pack 225 round Remington golden HP 22lr for 9.95 a pack. After finding out what a hard time some of them were having I just offered mine to the out of towner and told him the gun show in 3 weeks would have more than he wanted. No big deal now I think there is more and more available by the week and if you can find at Bass Pro or Wal-Mart when the trucks come in prices are no higher.
Bought another 22 hand gun at last weeks show and had to go to their shop to pick up some extra magazines since the Walther only came with one. That shop I went to was called Shoot Straight and this branch was in West Palm. They had no shortages on guns that's for sure and prices were exactly what was at the shows but only want to sell ammo to those that purchase guns from them (makes sense)
Still cannot find mini mags and will buy them in 3 weeks at the show for sure.

New Reality?

Had a chance to drive up to the largest hunting and shooting store in 50-100 mile radius. They had a fairly full stock of handguns( many for at least MSRP) and rifles.Bushmaster in three models, two or three of each sitting on the table,$2000+.Several other makes and models at $1500 +/-.

Lots of 115gr 9mm FMJ available. Also had Speer 124gr GD JHP,Hornady 135gr Flex CD,and Federal 147gr H. S. The kicker??? $38 to $42 per box.

Although they were well stocked with other handgun and rifle ammo,I don't buy it so the prices didn't register.

Is $2 per round for JHP going to be the new reality?

Walmart today

south Florida Walmart
9mm Federal 9mm 115 fmj value pack (100) 21.37 limit 3
they also had same in 50 round pack
40's also had lots
no 22 (some times they have the 225 round packs about every 2 weeks when I go.
Have seen 40's at least once every 10 days.
I go to Walmart to shop maybe every 5-8 days for something so I just pass the sporting goods counter. They had quite a bit of 40 and 9 and maybe 10 boxes of 45
Supply is much easier to find now.
Still cannot get 22 mini mags.

Crazy ammo days

Was at the gun show this weekend, saw bricks of .22lr ammo with $80 tags on them. I Couldn't believe it.

Gun Brooker/Guns America

22LR is going for $.13 to .15 per round.

9MM is selling for $30+/box for FMJ 115 grain loads

Was able to get 3 boxes of the 225 pack of Remington tonight @ Wal Mart @ $32.86 for 3 packs. Tempted to put them out on one of the sites to see if I actually would get the money. Capitalism at its finest.

america is going down the toilet. due to me being power hungry, all my guns use the odd ammo that was originally more expensive. 22 mag, 10 ga, 500 mag, 2 bore, 38 s&w. so, while my ammo was orginally expensive, i can now sit back and relax while people frenzy over the brick of 22s,
soon, my once expensive ammo will stay expensive, BUT it will be cheaper than regular ammo

Ammo should eventually come down in price. Lets not encourage the inflated prices by buying them, unless you really needed it.

You may very well look back at these prices as the good ole days. How about you, sir, show me a graph of how ammo prices have come down in price over say the last...you fill in the time period.

Who buys ammo thinking they will never need it?

I'm reading this post and scratching my head...

This is America. Why doesn't someone ramp up production and make a fortune on increased demand.

Comeon people... there's money to be made here.

Because
1) You can't ramp up pruduction of a high fixed cost business that quickly.
2) This is politically/panic driven. Manufacturers have no assurance the price will fall back as quickly.

They're trying, and they're manufacturing at 100% capacity but people are buying it before it even sits on the shelf.

The *******s jacking all the stock and reselling it on Gunbroker for 3x the price **** me off.

THisis why I have been attempting to reload but have had a hard time coming up with the initial investment, even for something as simple as the Lee Challenger kit, buying a house sucks the life out of your wallet!

From my own research using 9mm range ammo types:

Early 90's to mid 90's = ~$0.14/rd for big bulk (1000 rds)

Mid 90's to election in '08 = $0.06/rd to $0.14/rd (varied widely) in non-bulk

Early '09 to Recent (Pre - Sandy Hook) = $0.22/rd to $0.24/rd in small bulk (100 rds)

Post -Sandy Hook = Price gouging = avg $0.50/rd

Inflation calculator = $0.14 in 1990 has same buying power as $0.25 in 2013

From what I can see, if you calculate inflation into the mix, price has not changed much. There were few factors here and there that influenced price (foreign ammo import, election, Sandy hook, etc) for a time, but if history is any indication, my guess is price will come back down to about $0.25/rd.

.22

I personally have seen .22 long rifle ammo priced at $50 for a 50 round box that a short time ago sold for $2.00 - $2.50. The sad thing is the Gentleman selling the ammo SOLD ALL HE HAD AT THAT PRICE. Yes, a dollar a round
for .22 long rifle at a Gun Show. I was incredulous to see it.

So I guess that when I wanted to sell my AR15 sport with only 20 rounds fired and 550 rounds of Federal Eagle M193 ball for $1110.00 it was too much?
Crazy Indeed.

$50 per box of .22? yeah I would sell my stash at that price too.

Gander Mountain has 100 packs of .22 Remington for $7.5 this morning. Still high but prices appear to be falling.

There is ammo to be had out there for decent prices if you can find it. Since february i have bought about 2,000 rounds of 9mm fmjs mostly online. The most ive payed per box is $18. I just got 1,000 rounds of 9mm blazer aluminum delivered to my door in 4 days for $300. I've collected a decent stash to keep on hand all the while still hitting the range once a week. The key is patience. I got desperate and ordered 3 boxes of 9mm fmj for $32/box the other day after not seeing anything for a while. 10 minutes after that i cancelled my order because i found 1,000 for $300.

Why are people hording .22lr? It is not a defensive round and no one is talking about banning it. My only guess is that people think they will be able to live off of small game after the coming zombiepocolypse, but there are only so many squirrels to harvest you know?

There is only one LGS that has .22 mini-mag ammo for sale. He's asking $10 a box. No one is buying it.

AT the shooting range where I'm an RSO I heard that one LGS had bulk boxes of .22 but he wouldn't sell the ammo by the bulk box. He was only selling the ammo in lots of 50 rounds at $7 each.

I reload for every caliber that I shoot with the exception of .22 and I'm not going to pay high prices for it.
