If you were prohibited from shooting/owning an AR
What would you buy?

I just ordered it Wednesday. I chose a Savage model 11 scout. Bolt action 308. Very well appointed for the price. Ruger and Mossberg make Scout's also. The key being bolts but with 10 rnd magazines

I'd use my AK, or M1 Carbine, or Mini14, or just get a DPMS FN-FAL Para.

Maybe an SKS, or a lever action in 30\30.

Depends on the restrictions!
If only ARs were banned, then I'd probably get a SCAR. Other options FAL, PTR-91, M1A, FN BAR, M1 Garand, Mini-14, Mini-30, AK, SKS, M1 Carbine, or Scout type rifle. |

As above, if only AR's were banned...
Another: AK Barrett M107A1 .50 Lapua .338 (several possible vendors) Weatherby 7mm

I think your question is a little vague because if you live in an area where you were prohibited from owning an AR, you are likely prohibited from owning an AK, a pistol grip rifle of any kind and even a .50 cal. In my jurisdiction, even rifles with bayonet lugs or muzzle devices are verboten. My advice is to invest in an AR pistol with a barrel of any length and call it a day. Pistols are not "assault weapons", typically, and may not be prohibited in your area. There are manufacturers out there making 5.56 rifles with traditional stocks for prohibited areas; the Kel-Tec SU-16 comes to mind. Good luck.

I don't understand the question. Why am I prohibited from owning it? What else am I prohibited from owning? What am I supposed to be using it for? Can I only choose one replacement?

Another "crime bill" is coming.
Due to this fact, the question is relevant.

Always a crime bill coming.
It's a theoretical question to illicit a discussion. Not unlike the future weapons question But it's Friday and black rum is in my blood so I'll refrain from posting anything else

For Tucker 1371:
I noticed the muzzle device on your M1A .... Do you run a can on that? If so, what make/model? Thanks. |

My M1 Carbine is my preferred close quarters weapon after my S&W.

I would not buy one if I couldn't use it. I can think of 100 other things that I can spend my money on that I can actually use. But if I already had it I would probably turn it into a lamp haha.

I'm not really concerned with What IF's.
First, IT AINT GONNA HAPPEN. Even when they had that silly Assault Rifle Ban, ARs were easy to come by. After all there is an Existing Law, That requires the CMP/Army to provide instruction in the use of our Current Service Rifles. The Law has been in effect since 1904, (Last revised in 1996 during the Assault Rifle Ban), but the law is still in effect. The rifles have changed since 1904, and so has the program, Now we use ARs instead of Krags and Springfields.

kraigwy, never say never.
Many things we once put on that "AINT GONNA HAPPEN" list have already happened.
