Primer pockets
My primer pockets get cleaned when, as, and if, the primers start refusing to bottom due to the amound of crud in the pocket. Have NEVER had a misfire with a reload, cleaned primer pocket or otherwise. No odd behavior attributible to primer-pocket-crud.
Most of the big chunks of crud (relatively speaking--they're still pretty tiny) fall out with the old primers when I deprime the cases.

Lee Loader
I too started with the Lee in 1975 in 357 mag.
Word of advise : LOOSE THE POWDER DIPPERS. I used to use different caliber brass cases as scoops. I would go to a friends house that had a scale and file the cases down until they held the right amount of powder and solder a bent wire on as a handle and vibro etch charge weight on the case. You can get all the loading data you need online free at www.nationalbullet.com they have all the books from the different powder mfgs on line. Forget all the RED, BLUE, 2400 etc. The best powder for the 357 is still winchester 296 with magnum primers. It gives the higest velosity with the least pressure. Anything else is just personal preference by the suggestor. The latest Winchester book lists 18.5gr WW296 125gr JHP at 1800 fps at 32,500 cup. Try to beat that with any powder. Let me know if you do, I'll switch. I am probably the wrong one to suggest light loads. I paid for a 357mag and I want it to act like a 357mag. If I wanted to shoot light loads and baby my gun, I'd buy a 22. I shoot a Ruger Security 6 SS now, my first one was blue in 1975. I have shot S&W's to pieces with my reloads but the Rugers are built to take it. In 44 mag I shoot a Colt Anaconda for the same reasons. It is tough. If you plan to reload much, get a gun built to handle the pressure. For example one load I used to shoot wild hog hunting used a 220 gr Remington 35 caliber rifle bullet and 296 powder. Won't give the load for your protection, but it is definately not for the weak at heart. "This is not your daddy's 38spl" |

I just can't under stand why a pistol shooter would want an anniversary lee loader, not trying to bust anybodys bubble. But there Deluxe set is hands down better for the pistol shooter.Someone said they can do 50 an hour the deluxe kit 150 is normal, is simple to use if you get the auto indexing is about as close as you can get to a progressive. For the rifle shooter the anniversary is the way to go for pistol no way.Now I feel better got that of my chest If you have hours to kill that kit is for you
