Remington 1894

I have a friend who has an 1894 and we're trying to figure out as much as we can about it. The barrels appear to be damascus. They have a pattern that looks like fingerprint swirls. The bottoms of the barrels are marked:

I (or 1) /// A P

I can find lots of information online about other marks corresponding to grades, type of steel, etc. but nothing I've found matches the marks on it.

Any help?

Most of those types of stamps are factory inspection stamps and have no meaning once it leaves the factory.

368 [choking %, 368/511 = .72% Full] [over Full, less than Extra Full}
284 [choking %, 284/511 = .55% I. Mod] Imp. Cyl.

the numbers on the lug surface are the pellets count from a 511 pellet loads for determining chokes.

The CHAMBERS are the SHORT 2-9/16 length. Not the standard 2-3/4 standard length.

What state you in? Locate a knowableble gunsmith to determine for examing the shotgun.

I have used the Bachelder's shop in Grand Rapids, MI., for a examing my grandfathers 1894.
