870 vent rib

I just got a 870 vent rib barrel from a fellow member of TFL and I put it on my gun and it seemed to kind of wiggle a little bit when I checked to see if I had put it in right. I did install it the correct way (I think) and after that I put back on my 20" barrel and there was no wiggle. Did I do something wrong and I just didn't see it or do other 870s have the same problem. The barrel is a 28" vent rib. Is it safe to shoot it with the wiggle?

I think you are O.K.

I had a Remington 870 TB trap gun that I also used for skeet. My trap barrel always had a slight amount of wobble. If it makes you feel any better, both my Mossberg pumps have a little movement too

When I traded for my 870 TB last year, it had a touch of wiggle. I swapped mag caps until I had one that tightened enough to take out the wiggle.

This was the first 870 I've had that I couldn't get tight with the padded channelocks method.

It's just a case of tolerances being loose. Not to worry...

Dave is right, switching caps might fix it. It will work either way, slightly loose or tight.
If it bothers you enough, I'll take it off your hands. I've been looking for one of those myself.
I've struggled with the decision to either
a. spend $150 for a spare barrel or
b. watch for the 870 combos to go on sale this fall and add 'nuther shotgun to the bloated rack.

It's a dog-eat-dog world out there- and I'm glad I'm not a dog.

Just got back from shooting and it works just fine. It sure was fun.
Sorry I didn't call you K77/22rp. We left pretty early.
