This is the latest addition to the collection- a Lee-Enfield Ishapore 7.62mm Nato, manufactured in 1965. Receiver, bolt and magazine serial numbers all match...

I never knew enough about LE's to fill a shotglass, but I was suprised to see that yours was made in '65. Is that the actual build date, or it's last arsenal date? I guess that could esplain why I've seen so many over the years in such good shape.

I've been ignoring the 308 win/7.62 and 223/5.56 discussions for a long time now but that's an awesome write up FALphil. Thanks for that. It should actually be a sticky.

fatwhiteboy let us know how that thing shoots. always wanted to know but im still to add another couple of milsurp types to my collection before i consider one of those.

Thanks, davery. I have an Ishapore 2A1. I think the only difference between it and the 2A are the rear sights. IIRC, the 2A slider goes to 2000 meters and the 2A1 goes to 800 meters.

It has been a while since mine has come out of the safe. The chamber was so loose that I quit shooting brass ammo out of it and started shooting steel cased Russian ammo. Even so, it was just under 3 inches at 100 yards.

I love the balance of the thing. I could carry it all day with my hand just in front of the magazine, and it shoulders amazingly fast.

1965 is the actual manufacture date. These were made in India until 1975, IIRC and in service with the Indian army into the mid '80's....
