Which one and why?
Which would you pick for HD and why? A semi-auto or pump shot gun. What ammo would you use.

I have a pump, but mostly because it's cheaper than buying a semi-auto defense gun. With improvements in auto-loaders over the years, they are probably as reliable as pumps, and may have less room for human error. So I guess my answer is "I'll take either"
For ammo, I have 00 buck, but would consider going as small as #4 buck |

I like 870s, been using them since Ike was president and I can count the glitches on one hand with some fingers left over.
However, there's other good choices in both autos and pumps. Either should be absolutely reliable, easily deployed and comfortable to shoot. Other than that, it boils down to personal choice. Don't worry about "Best". Just shoot it plenty and it will become "Best".... |

Either will get the job done using anything from #2 shot and larger. Chances are 99.5 % you will never need them unless you have a bad snake problem.
So, don't worry be happy and think about what a beautiful world we live in. I personally seem to be able to bring a pump back on target better for birds and clay. |
