Gun Cleaning
I'm a bit new to guns, and while i have cleaned my guns before, I'm not entirely sure I'm doing it right...
SO, any suggestions on what to do while cleaning a gun, what to look for, frequency of cleanings? Should guns be disassembled to be cleaned or are they okay intact? I currently have 2 revolvers, a semi-auto shotgun, and a .17hmr bolt action rifle. I plan on getting a semi auto handgun. |

Cleaning
Wipe them down after handling. Mostly I detail clean once a year even if I haven't shot the firearm. Just makes sure there is nothing going on I need to know about. Regular shooters get a quick cleaning after the range and every few hundred rounds a detail cleaning.
Allot depends of the type of gun and what it's primary function is SD guns need to work no matter what and they get very close attention. Range fun guns enough to keep them functioning. |

If you shoot them, clean them. Like the post above said, mine get cleaned once or twice a year even if they aren't shot.
Personally, I do not break my guns alway the down to clean them. Use a good solvent like Hoppes and afterwards use a light gun oil. You might want to over oil them but really don't need all that much. And, since you are new to guns, never forget to make sure they are unloaded before you clean them. It's pretty straight forward but even people with years of experience forget that occasionally.
