Laser-Cast 158 SWC .38/357 loads

Anyone have the Laser-Cast manual or suggestions of recipes for .38/357?

I have Unique and HP-38 to use at the moment. Thanks in advance.

Take a look at the Alliant website:

Max load: Unique 6.8gr. 158 gr. LSWC 1,295 fps. 33,900 CUP

Thanks for the info... can I assume that data for any 158 LSWC is good for the 158 LSWC from Oregon Trail/Laser-Cast. I know that the Laser's are a much harder bullet than the "regular" lead.

I called Oregon Trail today and they are going to mail me some load data.

Blue Dot works good if you use .357 Magnum loadings. It does not burn properly for 38 special pressures though.

Cast bullet data is pretty much interchangeable between brands of bullets. You must remember that any data is just a guide. What works perfectly in one gun may not in another. One thing to watch for is that very hard bullets may not work well at low pressure. Soft bullets will not work well at high pressure. You may very well get leading and poor accuracy with hard bullets from a .38 Special case at 800 fps and have them work perfectly from .357 at 1200 fps or even more.

You should probably mention what type of gun you have when you ask for recipes. The large number of .38s and ..357s out there span quite a range from "little, tiny and fragile", all the way up to "massively strong".

That said, I like 14 grains of 2400 in my .357 S&W Model 28 with the 158 grain Lasercast SWC for a full power load. Keep in mind though that the 28 is in the "massively strong" class. Regardless of what your gun is though, you will certainly want to start lower and work up to that to be safe.
