How About Adding a "Delete Post" Feature ?

.

It'd be nice if this forum included a "delete post" under the "edit" feature of a person's own post, like many other forum do..............instead of the "edit" feature disappearing after an additional post follows one's own post.

.

The edit feature doesn't disappear after a following post, it disappears after a certain time limit.

I don't remember how long. A few hours, I think.

As far as delete, it would need to have a time limit too, or someone with the wrong attitude could go back and delete all their posts (it's been tried) and create very odd, disjointed conversations. I didn't (don't) know that vBulletin even has such a (timed) feature.

You can always PM staff and ask them, or change the text to "Delete" if you're still in the edit time limit. We'll delete it if we see it, or no harm if we don't as it will only say "Delete".

I have a post out there that's almost 4 days old and it still has the Edit button, but one 6 days old does not.

Yes, it's around 4-5 days, I think.

Bear in mind that, even if you delete a post, it may have already been cached by Google and other search engines.

I'd like a quote feature. This is the first forum I've ever encountered which makes it so hard to quote another post.

Posters can edit their submissions for 96 hours.

Letting members self-delete posts can be a very bad thing for a number of reasons.

If theirs is the first post in a long thread, deleting it removes the ENTIRE thread.

Deleting a post in the body of a thread can really mess with the continuity of the thread.

As noted (and as has actually happened) someone can get into a snit and decide to delete themselves in a fit of pique.

That makes a HUGE amount of work for us.

Posters are encouraged to think first about what they post.

Staff will entertain, on a case by case basis, requests to delete individual posts (only with a compelling reason), but under no circumstances will we delete a poster and all of the posts he has made.
