Favorite lever gun caliber....

How many of you have or want a lever gun? I am curious what caliber you chose or would choose and for what reason. Tell me what you use it for and how you like it. .22 mag, .30-30, .307 win, .308 mx, .357 mag, .358 win, .375 win, .44 mag, .444 marlin, .45-70, .450 marlin or any other typical lever gun calibers.
What do you all think?

I don't have one yet, but dearly want a Henry 22. Someday.

Friend of mine has a Marlin 336. It's nice, but mostly just a hunting gun as ammo is so expensive you can't really plink with it.

I only own one. Only really have any experience with my own except for two shots out of both a Winchester 94 .30-30 and three shots out of a Marlin 1894CB .45-70.

I love my 1894CB .357, but I look forward to picking up a .30-30 and a .45-70, maybe even a .44 magnum.

Owning a lever in both 30-30 and 45-70 should be required for citizenship

lets see, 218, 3220, 4440, 45c, 730, 3030, 375.....243,308 (in hammerless levers). had a couple of 4570s and 444s. recoil was more than i could handle. my browning 85 hi wall takes care of that chore now.
.....without a doubt the 3220 is my favorite. it is quiet, effective, accurate. it allows me to shot a rifle in an rural area without notice. bobn

.45/70 Marlin Cowboy

My favorite cartridge is the 45/70

I recently gave my Marlin 45-70 to my grandfather (I had it several years and never even fired it ) so the only lever gun I have now is a Henry Youth .22lr (I bought it the day my 9 month old nephew was born and saving it till he gets old enough). Would like to get a Marlin 30-30 someday.

I have a Marlin 1894C in .357 Magnum for my SHTF gun (a small step down from a .30-30 but holds twice as many rounds.) It's enough gun for deer, even the big deer we have up here, but I don't hunt. Not yet anyway. Mostly I just shoot it for fun. And it's really cheap to reload for.

I also want a Puma in .454, but there are a half dozen other guns I want first unless I just fall into a deal on the Puma.

How about a Marlin .35 Rem? That's what I might get next. I have a Marlin 39A, and am thinking about the 336XLR in 35 Rem caliber. Maybe a 45/70 Govt. later?

lever guns

At one time I hated lever guns. I shot a 30-30 that jammed often.

I bought a .35 reminington because my cousin had one and killed many deer with it and it was a steal. 100 bucks.

I got a Marlin .357 magnum 18?? CB for cowboy action shooting.
Got a Rossi .45 long colt for the same reason.

Picked up a .44 mag Winchester Trapper at the pawn shop cause it seemed short handy and cheap(150).

The .35 Remington is my favorite, it flattens deer beautifully. I prefer it to the 30-30 because of the heavier bullet weights available. There is little recoil and the ammunition is widely available around here if you don't load your own.

I currently have 0 level guns. I'd really like one in .357 and I'd probably go for one in .30-30 if the right deal came along.

.250-3000 Savage

That's my favorite lever gun cartridge and the take-down Savage 99 that shoots it is my favorite rifle. A Marlin 336 in .35 Rem with a Leupold Scout Scope is a close second.

I other lever guns I've had over the years to compare it to:

Marlin 39A .22
Marlin 336 in .35 Rem.
Marlin 1895 in .45-70
Winchester 94 in .30-30
Savage 99 in .300 Savage

Marlin 1895 GS...45-70

It's my favorite so far (very accurate for a short little lever gun), I've also had a marlin 444 and a winchester model 94 guide gun (didn't like it). I've shot Elk & Mule deer w/the 444, currently use the 45-70 for close quarters moose hunting and as a bear country hiker. IMO the Marlin is a better gun than the win because in my experience they are more accurate and you can remove the bolt for proper cleaning.

P.S.

The 450 marlin is a waste of $ if you are a reloader.

I don't have one, yet, but a 30.30 is the text book example of a lever gun and would be my choice.
