CAS ammo ???

I will, soon, be receiving my revolvers (Uberti cattlemen 5.5bbl) and carbine (yellowboy carbine) and would like to know the best bullet to shoot in a .45lc...200 or 225gr...

and...in a Stoeger Coach gun...2 3/4 or 3 inch?

man, is this gonna be fun!!!

2 3/4", Winchester AA light target or Remington STS light target.

The 200 grain .45's might not stabilize, but the 225's will probably be fine. I use 5.5 grains of Hodgdon's Titegroup with a 225 grainer for all my .45 CAS guns.

The original .45Colt was a 255gr. lead bullet over 40gr of black powder (FFg).

And within fifteen years was changed to 28 grains/230 grain bullet for the army. Soldiers said it kicked too much.

Black powder is messy, but if you want to go that route, there is a main category called Frontier Cartridge, and a side match category called The Plainsman where all four guns must use black powder. The Plainsman category must use percussion revolvers. Loading black powder cartridges & shotshells is a whole 'nuther ball game, research it before you try it!

Go with the light 2 3/4" for sure. 3" shells may not even be allowed at some places as they limit the size and power for the sake of targets and ears. At any rate, you would get tired in a hurry in an 8 round shotgun stage with those heavy loads. I don't shoot 45's but with 38's the heavier bullets tend to be a bit more consistent while the lighter bullets kick a little less.
