Sand is silica an abrasive [as in sandpaper !] It can and will scratch tool steel and even carbide !!
Pop the primer then clean by boiling in water with detergent and you'll be ok.

Personally, I like to soak all my shot brass in about a gallon of warm water, about a half cup of vinegar and about a tablespoon of dish liquid. let it sit for about an hour and then rinse very clean. It really cleans them right up and will remove all traces of dirt and grit. And if extra cleaning is needed I'll then tumble in my tumbler with walnut or corncob media. And I also use and like lubing my cases with a lube pad. Never have dents due to over lubing or have I ever had to deal with a stuck case. Just my two cents worth.

I have never lubed the outside of case necks , just brush the inside and pull the handle !

I think I will start soaking my brass in a vinegar, detergent liquid before tumbling and depriming. I like clean brass
