Nosler Varmageddon

Has anyone loaded these Varmageddons yet for .223 rem? I have loaded these before using varget with 1 moa results, but im trying to burn off some CFE223 leftovers. So I referred to Hodgdons reloading data online and chose the 26-27.8 load data for a 55gr round. I am using these in my AR, so hopefully I can get a nice grouping. Does it seem like I might be to hot for these loads?

I was loading 25 gr of H334 and then dropped to 24 grs and my groups closed up quite a bit. So you may want to try a little less powder. Start with the lowest and load up from there to see where you get the best groups.

When I loaded those using Varget, I started at 23.5 I think. From the websites data, I did start at the low but it seems high. After I fire the first round, I will inspect my brass very close!

Always start at the min load data or 10% less, work from there.
Varget seems to like the charges that are compressed loads in my rifle.
I started at the min and went into the compressed range at .2gs at a time.
My groups came in tight enough for me. Never went any higher..
When I run out of varget im going to try some of the less filling powders.

Good luck, safe loading,

Mike

That would be 10% less than maximum, not minimum. He is wanting to load CFE223, not Varget. He already has an established Varget load.

Mor308,

Have you read through Dan Newberry's pages on his load development system yet? You may not need one of his OCW loads, but you can still use the round robin he describes to help find your own group minimums.

Unclenick, yeah I did get a chance to read that over. I have always liked to load up some groups and fire 1 round of each first, find what's safe and group from there. I need to join a range, would be so much easier!
