No Date code On my Uberti

Benelli said the don't have serial numbers for Uberti's before Stoeger took over importing. The catalog number is 1487 but this 1873 is marked on the barrel as a 45 Colt not a 44 Magnum. There is no box with a date code anywhere on this gun. Any idea you might have about the date of manufacture or if I can look the serial number up someplace?

Look for a very small stamping with roman numerals stamped in it. A box shape, those are found on every Italian gun made. The stamps could also be letters.
Let us know what you find.

If it's Roman numerals they won't be in a box. They started the two letter code in a box in 75

No Date Uberti

Thank you Guy for the info. Unfortunately, It does not have the older roman numerals on it anywhere. It does have Italian proof marks and serial number on frame in front of the trigger guard and the Only thing on the right side of the frame is CAT. 1487

Thanks for your Help

Hawg your right about the date code, on my 1860 army the code has no box. My code is located on right side of frame just above the trigger guard.

Mine must be a modern antique as the code is XXV (1969) and the gun is a Replica Arms.
The Uberti logo(muzzle end of a rifled barrel with a 'U' in the center) is located on the frame left side just where the trigger guard stop's.

I find strange that an Uberti gun has no date code. Does it have proof marks? Some kind of a star over a shield, a star over PN or PSF?

The National Weapons Catalog was introduced in Italy in 1975 and the number 1487 refers to the UBERTI MOD. COLT 1873 BUCKHORN S.A. TARGET (TMR) cal .44 Magnum. The number was assigned on November 1979, therefore your gun was made later and should have the box somewhere.

I have a feeling that the "proof mark" on the frame in front of the trigger guard might be the date code. Is it two letters? Mine is marked in the same spot with CC, a 2008 date code.

Same for me...

I have the same issue @Ricksgtx does. No date code anywhere, just the serial number and the shields with stars. It's the CAT.1487. (serial number blurred)

Take off the ejector rod housing and look under it. You do realize this thread is almost three years old.

Sure do. Only online source I can find referencing the same problem I'm having dating this. Took it off and found the date code - 'BB'.

Thanks!
