What 9mm loads do you use with Berry's 115 gr round nose bullets?
I bought 500 115 gr Berry's round nose bullets at Cabelas. I have the brass and primers. I just need to find some powder now. What kind of loads do you all use with these bullets?

Just keep them under 1250 fps and you will like them.

I love Berrys and Rainier bullets. I follow jacketed data as well and have never had a problem.

My favorite load for Rainier 115 gr. plated ( should be close to yours ) is 6.8 gr of Hodgdon HS-6 loaded to a OAL of 1.169". Since I tend to load long, I often have to adjust my powder charge to obtain a pressure to provide reliable cycling.

I don't remember the load data because it's been a few years, but Green Dot worked very well with those bullets. Titegroup should also be a good powder, and I normally don't like Titegroup.
For plated bullets, use jacketed bullet data and a fast-burning powder (GD and TG are pretty fast)

Hodgdon TiteGroup or Hodgdon Universal are my preferences.
But if you look at the Hodgdon website ..it will give you other options as well. |

I use Accurate #2 for my 9mm loads (115 and 147 plated xtreme bullets). 4.1gr for the 115 and 3.5gr for 147. I use the "plated bullet" data found in the lee manual.
Could go higher but both those loads are accurate and cycle my sig 226 perfectly so no need to |

I use Power Pistol in a load that clocks out at around 1220 fps and groups well.

Accurate Arms #7 for me - Berrys 115gr HBRN-TP bullets worked great.

Been loading Berry's 115 gr double struck round nose for quite a few years. I use Unique - 5.0 grains, COAL 1.150". Averages about 1130 FPS out of my 4" Springfield XD.

I just have to share this. Tonight I hit the big jackpot with a new load. Rainier 124g hp, 1.130 COAL, 4.8g autocomp. this is the money outa my springfield 5.25. I have officially had the best group I've ever shot. 15 yards standing off hand 1 nice ragged hole 10 shot group. Now I just need to chrono it. I seriously hope I can duplicate this again. The guy shooting next to me said when I finished wow I literally just watched you do that. I'm still grinning from ear to ear thinking about it.
Just to add, 4.4 - 4.8 grains all shot very well but 4.4 was a little light. |

I got my reasons
I most highly recommend you start with Alliant Power Pistol.
It will work with every bullet weight and construction. It has extreme accuracy potential. It has high velocity potential. It meters superbly. It burns cleanly. It is normally very progressive in nature. It is reasonably priced, and relatively economical in use. Data is abundant. Big manufacturers agree...... And, like W231 or Unique, it is extremely versatile, working well in cartridges from 32 ACP up to 45 Colt (and beyond). Can't find any? -Ramshot Silhouette -Hodgdon Universal -Accurate AA5 -Hodgdon HS6 -Vihtavuori 3N37 -others......

Since we're on the topic...
Accidentally loaded Berry's 115 RN with 5.7 unique at 1.135 last night. Was looking at wrong load data (never was a measure twice cut once kind of guy). Does anyone foresee this exceeding the 1250 mark out of a 3.8 barrel? Really don't feel like pulling all 50.

nlaudato -
Alliant says that 6.3 grains will yield approx. 1,244 fps in a 4-inch barrel with a GDHP bullet. handloads.com shows 1,185 fps from 6.1 gr. of Unique using a FMJ. I don't have my Berry's load data with me but think you will be OK at 5.7. Addendum 6/20 - checked my reloading data last night, showing min. of 5.5 and max of 6.1 for a 9mm FMJ, so you should be fine with a plated bullet. My actual used load is 5.3 grains of Unique and it runs my guns fine. Last edited by spacecoast; June 20, 2013 at 07:36 AM. |

4.4 titegroup, WSP, 1.150 OAL.
Crimp only enough to remove the bell, no more. Case tension holds the bullet, not crimp. If you overcrimp a plated they are soft, will deform, accuracy a fine mess.
