Xd45gap Reload

Does anybody reload for a Springfield XD45GAP W/4" barrel?
The only thing I can get to shoot accurately is Speer Gold Dot 200 gr but need an equivalent load I can make for a fraction of the cost. I use the Gold Dots for defense rounds but they're too costly to have fun with. No wise ass remarks please about I should have bought a .45ACP as the GAP fits my small hand perfectly and I appreciate the lighter recoil which gets me back on target a little quicker.

Get reloading data from a manual or Hodgdon.com for a 200gr jacketed bullet. Use a 200gr JFP from Montana Gold Bullet to save money for practice rounds. Start with the "start loads" (really!) and work up if needed to match recoil feel of the factory GDHP's. Do not exceed published max loads.

I'm afraid that's the best I can do as I don't have or reload for .45gap.

I won't laugh at your .45gap if you don't laugh at my 7.7jap or .375win. A lot of us have guns that others don't see a need for. As I see it the more obscure or expensive the cartridge, the greater the need to reload for it. Welcome to The Firing Line!

Sorry to be so tardy in replying to your answer Sport 45 and thanks for the welcome to the forum. I got into the Montana web site and their bullets look real good. As soon as I develop the right powder load I will order some and go from there.

Stop. Right now.

First, suggest NOT odering a zillion, in case your gun doesn't like them; order a few for testing.

Second, what powder / load have you tested?

I’ve got a 45 GAP also. The Montana Gold Bullets look like the way to go. Next time I buy bullets for my GAP I’ll give them a try too. My G37 fits me just right and the more I shoot it the better I like it.

Good point.

Montana Gold Bullets appear to be a very close match dimensionally to the Hornady XTP's. The 200gr FP appears to be the same size as the 185gr HP except the point isn't hollow. You might want to try reloading a box of 100 XTP's first.

good suggestion weshoot. I have some XTP's laying around I'm going to try with Accurate#5. The 4" XD does not like full loads so am going to load 5 each of everything I can in reduced loads and see how they perform.
Would like a good load for the 4" bbl though if anybody has developed one so I won't have to experiment so much. Sure would save me a lot of time.
