So long as it hasn't been fired too many times, or work-hardened, it should be fine. You'll probably even end up with a case length that's only a hair too long (if at all).

If it's R-P .35 Whelen brass, it's drawn as .280 Rem, until the final forming step. So, what you've got is .270 Win / .280 Rem, that gets expanded to .35 caliber (and has a thin neck at .35 caliber).

thanks frankenmauser...

all the brass i have is once fired .270 win mostly nickle plated winchester.
i use to own a nice rem.700 woodsman, woodmaster 270win older model it was a really nice hunting rifle and i have alot of brass left over.i traded it for a H&R 500S&W for hog hunting,i then found the .35whelen perfect in the middle rifle for deer and hogs.i want to get into reloading for better ammo selection so its good to know i can use all of this left over brass...thanks again

If it's mostly nickle 270 cases, figure on losing a lot of your cases due to split necks. William

You'd probably have a little more success fireforming the .270 brass if it's nickle plated, rather than running it through an expander.

Remember to check overall length. .270 Win. is longer than .35 Whelen brass. You'll likely lose a lot of that length in the fireforming process, but it may still be long.

Or short.

Or right on the money.

No way to tell.

To form .35 Whelen cases from .270 Winchester will most likely require two steps. The first step is to size to .30 and then size to .35. This is a lot of stretching and when completed the necks might not hold the bullet sufficiently. If you must form you cases use 30/06 Springfield. Better yet, purchase a 100 .35 Whelen cases that will last you years.

Sell the .270 Brass and buy some 06 or Whelen or Trade it for 30-06 and for those to .35 ! From .277 to .358 is quite a stretch . if you can do it without crushing them , I think you're going to end up with very thin neck walls ! JMHO

The .270 brass is 2.540" and '06 and Whelen measure 2.494. Like others posted, you'd be better served getting '06 brass.

STOP!!!

Nickel-plated brass won't work. You'll lose 95% or more of your cases, due to the plating being bonded to the nickel. When the plated cracks, it tears the brass, as well. Nickel plated brass is not an option for forming processes that require that much of a change.

Hi. A lot less fuss to buy brass. You can either sell or trade the .270 brass. Or buy another .270.
"...500S&W..." Pricey stuff. You have the Magnum or the Special? Not much difference in the price. If you can find it.
