hi power in 30 caliber....

Harley,
I just located a hipower in 30cal and its in about 95%nra and has what looks like after market copied grips with one side haveing an eagle scrimshawed into the panel the most unusual part to me was the top of the slide for the part infront of the rear site almost to the front site was flat....guy wants $500 for it...fubsy.

My records indicate that there was a 30 Luger mfg'd from 1986-1989, with about 1,500 produced. For this the $500.00 is about $75.00 to much, (Value=$425 POOR= $100.00) If it is stamped FN these are reletively rare and would be some 30% higher.

Sorry about that. Evidentally, Rich has moved all threads inactive since 10/31/99 into storage. (See the Announcements.)

One of the points that I made in the thread was that FN has produced the .30 Luger HiPower variant since at least 1973, according to R. Blake Stevens. The individual who started the thread had come across two examples that were date coded to '81-'82. I have also seen at one example that was brought into the US through Canada. (The roll markings and instruction manual were indicative of Browning's Canadian branch.)

I don't know specifically about the HP, but most European makers produced guns in .30 Luger (7.65 Parabellum) for those countries (like Italy) where ownership of military caliber arms is prohibited. Colt also made guns in 7.65 P for those markets. I have a Colt Commander, which appears to be the result of some production over run. The barrel is marked ".30 LUGER" but is actually 9mm. Colt evidently rebored and re-rifled surplus 7.65 barrels to 9mm.
