What is the best Zero for a .22 rifle????

I have a S&W MP 15-22 and put a 3x9 on it.
What is my best zero distance if I plan to shoot from 15 yds-70 yds approx??
Seems most say between 25-40 but thats a big spread..
I'd like to try to keep around a 1" kill zone..

thanks for any help..

Depends on bullet weight and barrel twist to some degree if you really want to fine tune. Sound like yours is 1:9 which does best with heavy bullets, so I would personally like a zero at 50 yards for your intended shooting distances.

I currently have my .22 Kimber rifle with 2-7X Leupold zeroed at 65-70 yds. Trajectory with CCI MiniMag HP (1300 fps) is:
+.5" at 25 yds
+.9" at 50 yds
0 at 65-70 yds
-.5" at 75 yds
- 5" at 100 yds

For shorter range shooting, I zero at 50 yds but don't have the trajectory figures handy for closer/longer distances.

I usually zero .22's at about 75 yards. Aim a little low for closer in and a lot high when you go farther out. Seems to be right about the point where a .22 will really start to drop.

my brno .22 model 2 is set at 50yards. i have found this to be the most practical zero range for hunting at night.

I like 75 yards as a zero but I shoot from 25 yards to 125 yards. Also depends on ammo.

I tend to use 50 yards on mine. If the optic is not telescopic, I would probably use about 25 yards. Around here, I can't imagine using a .22 on anything out past 50yds anyway.

Look at the ammo you're using and the shots you think likely and plan accordingly.

I shot my .22LR in my club's 200 yard rimfire match. The amount of elevation required going from 100 yards to 200 yards equals the amount of elevation taking a 308 Win from 600 yard to 1000 yards.

About 24 MOA.

That round is running on fumes around 100 yards.

All my hunting .22 rifles are zeroed for 50yds. Where I hunt you can't usually see them farther because its so thick.

I zero my 22s at 50yds. That's where most rimfire scopes are set to be parallax free.

50yds here to. Though if I'm shooting paper at a set distance for a long time I'll just dial that distance in.
ie I sometimes take the rifle to a 25yd indoor range.

I've played around at 200 yds with my Remington Viper but re-set to 50 yds for hunting using CCI.

Most zero at 50 yards because of the parallax problem with rimfire scopes. If you have a nice center fire scope I think I would still stay with a 50 yard zero. .22LR runs out of gas pretty quick at longer ranges.
