S&W Model 19 cylinder question

If a model 19-3 does not have the recessed cylinder, would that mean the cylinder has been replace? Sorry if this is a stupid question. Thanks

Yes.
The 19-3 was produced until 1977. S&W did not eliminated the recessed cylinder until the model 19-5 in 1982.
