Buy a jug of Alliant Promo and you'll be shooting for a *long* time for less than $100. Works great for target loads in everything, or full-power .38 Specials w/ light bullets or .45 Colt. I've shot lots of it in 9mm before I switched to BE. I'd go back to it (still got about 5 or 6 pound) if I couldn't find BE.
Green Dot is a pretty good pistol powder that nobody thinks of, so you might can still find it for sale.

Well as for Green Dot, I could have bought a 1 lb of that this past week, they have about 5 1's on hand where I go. I dont know about the Promo, I will have to see what I can find at the store.

For pistols I am only loading for the .357mag .41mag, and 44mag. I use Win-296 in all of them. Works great for me, but they are full power loads.

Unique. The name says it all. It has applications from 25 ACP to 44 Mag. I have used it to load mild target to hot loads for 32 ACP, 380 ACP, 9X19mm, 38 Special, 357 Mag, 41 Mag, 44 Special, 44 Mag, 45 ACP, 45 Auto Rim, 45 Colt. Not that other powders can't do it also, that's just what I use.

Well just went to the Biggest local gun shop here in Fresno (Which isn't BIG)... Bought thier last 1# on Ramshot Silhouette. They had one 8# of Bullseye, but they wanted like $200 for it. I said "Are you F'n kidding me?" The guy said "I wish I was..." Holy crap that is outragous for a 8# of powder. Well the 1# will hold me for a month or two.

Ok even though GRAFS is out of stock on Bullseye... Thier 8# is only $103.79... Now even if you factor in the $20 something for Hazmat, I think the local place was try to ROB someone. I know also that someone will go in and buy that 8# for $200 and that just makes me sick. I feel sorry for that person.

I use alot of Alliant Power pistol. It meters pretty well and makes great fast 45 acp bullets. ( By the way 8.5 grains of PP is way too much for a 230 grain 45 bullet!)
I have also recently started using H110, which meters great!! It has been hard to find either thanks to all us hoarders!

clays
I've been using the universal clays in my 9mm, the wifes 38spl, my 357 mag and my 40 all with satisfying results. I am going to take some advise off of here and pick up some unique and some power pistol. Thanks to everyone for their input.

These days I guess we all use what we can find. I started relading a few months ago. After reading the reloading manuals, I had some definite ideas on what I would get. After going to the store, well I was surprised at the lack of selections suitable for my 45 Colt and 357. I was able to buy a couple pounds of Unique and a pound of 231 though. They will last me for a good long time while I'm learning things. No complaints at all. A shooting buddy offered to trade me a lb can of 296 for my pound of 231. I didn't do it though. The 296 doesn't look as versatile to me for my needs.

target powders:#1 Titegroup #2 WW231 (same as HP38) #3 universal
Power Loads: #1 Power Pistol #2 HS-6 or HS-7 (depends on caliber ) #3 longshot. WHY did Winchester discontinue WAP! Blue also works well. I have had best results for the big 3 semi auto rounds 9mm, 40S&W and 45acp with the above powers, but also use WW540 and WW571. Magnum handguns are a whole different breed and I tend to use medium burning powders for target as I like to get the case at least half full. For full power maggy's my go to powders are H110 or WW296 ( I wonder if these are the same ) and unique which can be a pain in my powder thrower. I use Blue dot also but there is a warning about using it in magnums with certain weights. Power is still cheap and with handguns it go's pretty far. Unique is still one of the best all around powder, but lately I haven't been able to find any, plus I like the way the ball and speherical flow and try to stick to those when possible, I HATE using a trickler.

Bullseye's performance and versatility of applications is amazing.
It's even a great 44 Mag powder too. Very accurate. |

Well I wen to the Local Shop today and I must say... It looked like a Ghost Town there. The shelves were so bare I though they were going out of Buisness. I did buy thier last 1 lb. of Green Dot that I am going to use with my 9mm and .40 cal loads. I have RamShot Silhouette and the Green Dot I am going to switch between.
It looks like the Componets chaos is going to continue down that line of componets... First Primers and Powder, and also Bullets. I called 7 places today looking for 9mm and .40 cal FMJ's NO LUCK AT ALL. |

Last time I was in Walmart they had eight one pound cans of Unique. That is more pistol powder than I have seen all winter, anywhere. With that in mind I would say look at what people have suggested and buy what you can find for right now. Unique is good.
BTW I do have 200 large Pistol Mag primer for swap or sale. Sorry I can't mail them. Pick up only. Cache County Utah. |

I'm kidding. It's like having a drug habit, I tell ya. I finally located some sp primers, so I bought 10,000 of em. I never bought more than 2,000 at once before. In my defense, I was trying to spread out the hazmat fee, and my brother will be getting 1/2 of these. Happy hunting all. Too bad this has come to mean hunting for components!
