Sorting 223 brass

Which is more important for accuracy?
All brass is LC.
Should I sort by weight or by year?
What is a good weight to sort by - .001 or more?

That's way to much effort... if you have a pile of .223 cases and they are all brass, I would think you'd be done with the sorting process.

No more sorting needed in my opinion.

Eliminate as many diferances as posible

I sort by manufcturer, year made, weight, and number of times fired
(after all case prep is done)
My brass is stored in 1 grain groups, and when I get enough for a batch
with .5 grain diferance I load them
Batch size varys with what you will be doing with them ( kids 50-100rds, grandkids 50-100rds, plinking 50-100rds, practice for a match50-100rds, or match ammo as many as needed for match(80+sighting rds+5rds extra))
(number of rds needed for a match varys as to what type of match)
( for anything but a match, I use odds and ends, small groups saveing the best batches for the match)

I used to think that if they are all in usable condition, then they are sorted.

Just loaded up 50 rounds for a friend over the weekend and ran into trouble with the brass he provided. They were different lengths. Different lengths from the rim to the shoulder. All brass were stamped Winchester and sized by me in the same die. I have never come across this before.

I'm not shooting match. My 223 never gets sorted, unless I'm working up a new load. In that case, I pick out enough like cases with equal firings to have a brass standard from which to work with.

Are you shooting a accurate gun? If not don't worry about it. If it is go by case volume. (how much water each one holds) seems to be the best way if you are really serious about taking a small group and making it smaller
