Smith and Wesson serial number help
I just got a S&W six shooter passed down to me that belonged to my great-grandpa, so I know it's pretty old, I am just curious if anybody can help me put a year on it. It is a 38 S&W CTG serial number V301xxx.
Thanks! |

1942/45. Likely the first year.

A word to the wise, it chambers the 38 Smith and Wesson cartridge ( that's the meaning of CTG ), not the .38 Special. Two different cartridges. Your gun is called a Victory Model with some collectors interest. Wartime usage. I'm on a tight time line right now and have to leave for the airport. Someone else can answer your next question " What is a Victory Model "
