What's a lease?

I see the term thrown about here, and I think I know what it is, but I'd like someone to explain it to me, just for my edification.

You see, I live in the land of vast unconstitutionally held tracts of federal property, so hunting access isn't a problem.

Basically, private/corporate land that's usually off-limits to general access.

Folks'll make an arangement, for $ so they can hunt on that land.

Conditions vary depending on all kinds of things. Land may be designated as "just for goose hunting," or whathaveyou ....
