BSE Series H reassembly

Hey Guys,
I have a Savage Fox Model BSE- Series H that I got as a Christmas gift. I shot it a few times and love it, but soon started having problems. For one, it was failing to eject. I fixed this issue by simply ordering new springs. The other problem was a failure to fire in one of the chambers. I ordered some new pins and springs. This is where I ran into problems. I completely disassembled the gun in order to get to the firing pins. When I went to reassemble it, I found it difficult to pin the mainsprings back into place simply because of how tight the spring was. The spring has a plunger that sits it and fits neatly onto the bottom of the hammer. The hammer has the hole for the pin, but it seems nearly impossible to depress the spring enough to place the hammer where it needs to be to pin it. I guess I'm just asking if anyone else has had a similar issue and how they tackled it or if theres something i might be overlooking.

Thanks!

Those would be the hammer spring guide rods. I can not remember if these has a small hole drilled in them, or not. However, on many guns, for this very problem, we will drill a miniature hole through the rod, generally just large enough to put a paper clip's wire in, then thread the spring on the rod. This compresses the spring, so you can put the rods in place. Next, you pull out the wire, and allow the spring to expand. The hole size will be something like a 1/32" or so, just slightly larger than the wire making the paper clip.

I made a jig that I put in my drill press to press them down while I get the pin in. It almost impossible to do it by hand. If you have a gunsmith near you it may be best to give him a few bucks to save you the headache.
